setting up private nameservers in WHM/Cpanel

Step 1: configuring namservers for server through root WHM .

  •  Login to WHM root account
  • go to : Home »Server Configuration »Basic cPanel & WHM Setup
  • At the bottom, you will find the Nameservers section.
  •  Type the name of the nameserver you wish to set up  and click the Assign IP Address
  • and save changes.
  • Click the Add “A Entries” for all Nameservers 

Editing Nameserver IPs via SSH

cPanel stores the nameserver IP’s in a files located at you can also edit these files to setup private nameservers

File1 :cat /var/cpanel/nameserverips.yaml

ns1.hostexample.com:
208.117.45.151: 1
count: ‘5’
zones: reseller.com,sample.com,hostexample.com,hostclient.in
ns2.hostexample.com:
208.117.45.152: 1
count: ‘5’
zones: reseller.com,sample.com,hostexample.com,hostclient.in

File 2: cat /etc/nameserverips
208.117.45.151=ns1.hostexample.com
208.117.45.152=ns2.hostexample.com

File 3: cat /var/named/hostexample.com.db :this file should have these entries to work correctly

hostexample.com. 86400 IN NS ns1.hostexample.com.
hostexample.com. 86400 IN NS ns2.hostexample.com.

ns1 14400 IN A 208.117.45.151
ns2 14400 IN A 208.117.45.152
